Celebration

2026 Lawton-Fort Sill National Juneteenth Celebration

“Commemorating the Legacy and Spirit of America”

“Juneteenth” or the 19th of June is the date slavery ended in America. General Gordon Granger traveled to Galveston, Texas to read General Order No.3, June 19, 1865. This was two and one-half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth is now recognized as a Local, State, and National Observance Holiday.

The Juneteenth Committee has been able to continue this national, state, and local tradition with the help of financial supporters. Generated funds from advertisements enable us to purchase food for this event.

Keeping the Juneteenth Celebration activities FREE and OPEN to the public is critical to our mission. Each year around June 19th, this event brings together our citizens for a day of activities, entertainment, music, and great food.

This Juneteenth is City-Sponsored and approved by the City Council.

2024 Juneteenth Celebration

Juneteenth Block Party

2023 was the first year the Juneteenth added a Friday evening Open Streets Block Party to its regular events.

2022 Juneteenth Celebration

2022 Juneteenth for Lawton Fort Sill and Southwest Oklahoma has a two-fold significance. This is the first year Juneteenth is celebrated as a National Holiday and this year is the first year we celebrate without our beloved local Juneteenth founder and organizer, Mr. Albert Johnson, Sr. As we commemorate and celebrate, may God bless us all.
